5 to 1 Safety Factor. Most bulk bags have a 5:1 rating. This means the bag was designed to hold 5 times the weight of the safe working load for testing purposes before failure. These bags are designed for single use. A 6:1 rated bag is designed for multi-use.
Bulk bags can be reused under certain conditions. It is recommended that only bags with a 6:1 Safety Factor be reused. Most bulk bags have a 5:1 Safety Factor, which we do not recommend being reused. Also bags could have a defect such as a small hole or unstable loops, which would make them unsuitable for reuse.
Bulk bags have several other names, including super sacks, big bags, totes and flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs). They are made of flexible material, typically strands of polypropylene (PP) woven into a fabric.
